Art Show by Higuera Blanca School
Students from the local Higuera Blanca School were invited to exhibit their mosaic artwork hosted by The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort during our famed Champagne Ritual in Altamira Lobby. All proceeds went towards raising funds for the arts program and general renovations to the school installations, a joint collaboration with PEACE Punta de Mita.
Higuera Blanca is one of the three local pueblitos in the area surrounding Punta Mita. It now has four schools–kindergarten, primary, middle school and a newly formed high school with an approximate school population of 400.
For the past three years, students from the Higuera Blanca Middle School have been creating art to raise money to improve their school. To date, the students have chosen projects that have upgraded the school’s electrical wiring for installation of smart boards and a wireless antenna, added an internet line, constructed an outdoor eating area, and designed and built a formal metal gate and door at the entrance of their school.
This year, students from the newly formed high school joined the class. This year’s projects being considered dependent upon how much money is raised include much needed air conditioners for the high school and in one of the four middle school class rooms, new desks, benches for outdoor seating, a portable sound system for school drills and presentations, and most critical, a new classroom for the high school.
The new high school currently has two classrooms for 10 and 11th grades. Next year the high school is adding grade 12 along with more students attending high school from this year’s 9th grade class. Their current small building already has been divided into two classrooms with very little room for office space and bathrooms.
